John's latest work has produced two winter scenes and two Cunard portraits.
The snow scenes of Westoe and Hebburn will be used by the library for their Christmas card collection.
See the recent Shields Gazette article below by Janis Blower for more detail.

The Cunard liners can be seen here at two different ports. On the left the QE2 enters the Tyne in September 2007 watched by thousands of admirers.

On the right the Queen Mary 2 sails from Southampton.

A library of wonderful winter images

CHRISTMAS card scenes take their inspiration from many places. But I think we've come to realise by now that some of the most beautiful are on our own doorstep. As well as the picture of Westoe, other new additions include a snowy view of St Andrew's Church at Hebburn, also by John, and an Edwardian scene of the Mill Dam, by South Shields artist Arnold Keedy. A seasonal view of another picturesque building, Whitburn parish church, also comes from Arnold's brush.
What, after all, beats the wintry view of the Westoe pub here as it would have appeared a century and more ago, under a blanket of snow and with the sky southwards heavy with more to come? The picture, by South Shields artist John Harvey, is one of several delightful new images which have been added to this year's collection of South Tyneside Libraries' Christmas cards.
This has now grown to embrace more than 50 paintings, drawings and photographs, all of local scenes both old and new. Little wonder that they go all over the world. The Christmas cards cost 75p each (buy four and get one free), and are available from South Shields Central Library, all branch libraries and from the Museum in Ocean Road.
