This view of the oldest part of Newcastle from the Tyne Bridge shows St Nicholas's Cathedral, The High Level Bridge, Sandhill and the Federation Brewery .

The oldest building in this sketch is the "New Castle Upon Tyne". It can be seen in the centre on the horizon and was founded by Robert Curthose, the eldest son of William the Conqueror in 1080 and was a motte and bailey type.
